From 29 June to 7 August 2026, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, hosted Ms. Madalena d’ Almeida Lima Canedo dos Santos from KU Leuven, Belgium, for a six-week internship within the PSU Inbound Internship Program (PIIP).

During her internship, Madalena contributed to activities related to the GaitREHub project through a mini-project focused on the design of an IMU holder and the preliminary testing of a concept for wrist and ankle attachment during treadmill walking. The mini-project allowed her to explore the connection between wearable sensor technologies and gait rehabilitation.

Her main tasks included:

  1. Designing and 3D-printing an IMU holder using CAD software;
  2. Developing a testing protocol with two healthy participants;
  3. Analysing raw IMU signals and performing feature characterisation.

She also visited a gait laboratory and the prosthetics and orthotics unit at Songklanagarind Hospital, where she gained additional insight into gait assessment and rehabilitation practices.

During her internship, Madalena also had the opportunity to meet Prof. Goran Stojanovic from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, as well as Ms. Ivana Ragusa and Mr. Stefano Di Natali from CoAImed, Italy, who were at PSU for their GaitREHub secondments.
